Ruth Vargas Forman

I have been practicing as a psychologist for more than 20 years in both Chile and Oregon. I am a bicultural therapist, fluent in Spanish and English, and I have provided counseling services to adolescents and adults from different countries and cultural backgrounds. My approach is based on a contextual perspective, trauma, resilience, and culturally responsive care. Services are tailored according to your unique background including gender and sexual identity. My desire is to collaborate with you to cultivate balance and healing in a safe environment through the use of evidence-based therapeutic modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Compassion Focused Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, and psychoeducation.

Over the twenty years I have practiced as a psychotherapist and forensic psychologist I have specialized in offering clinical services to Latin American refugees and other diverse clientele. I have worked in the Intercultural Psychiatry Program at the Oregon Health Sciences University (OHSU) and have taught various subjects at universities, including Psychology of Trauma, Resilience, and Interculturality at the University of Oregon. In Chile, I have taught the Istanbul Protocol, a forensic assessment tool to document human rights violations. I have worked extensively with human rights bodies in promoting culturally sensitive psycho-forensic documentation. I have offered expert testimony at the Inter-American Court of Human Rights and at the United States Immigration Court.
